What is an OTP?
An OTP is a One-Time-Password, comes in a form of six numeric digits . OTP is a security feature service for online transaction. When you are transacting online where the merchant site requires you to enter your OTP. The OTP will be sent to your mobile phone via SMS or to your email address. You must then enter the OTP to complete the transaction. The OTP becomes invalid after it has been used and cannot be used again.
What are the benefits of the OTP?
OTP provides more security as it requires you to go through an authentication process when you are making an online transaction using Bankmed Visa and Mastercard card in a merchant online that has a logo Verified by Visa or Mastercard Secure code.
Is OTP required for all transactions in merchants online?
No, only online merchant who participated and have the logo Verified by Visa or Mastercard Securecode that require you to enter the OTP to complete transaction.
How I will receive the OTP?
There will be 2 channels for receiving the OTP:
SMS only
and
SMS and Email
How long does it take to re-generate an OTP?
Automatically, Bankmed will send you an OTP via SMS/email, you can re-generate the OTP after selecting the ‘Resend OTP’ option that appears on the Online Shopping page.
What is the validity period of the OTP?
The OTP lasts for approximately 5 minutes , therefore you need to use it before that period. Otherwise you may request to re-generate another OTP. And the whole transactions validity period is defined as 9 minutes.
How do I enable the OTP login process?
No action is required from your end, because the OTP login process will be automatically implemented for you.
How do I add or change the number used for OTP delivery?
If your number is not updated, please call our experienced Call Center agents at +961 1 708090 or 1270 (inside Lebanon) and they will assist you in updating your number/ email address.
After updating the mobile number when do I receive the OTP?
As soon as the update is done by the Call Center agent, the client will be able to perform a transaction and receive the OTP to his/her last updated mobile number/e-mail address.
Are there any charges for receiving OTP via SMS and/or Email?
Currently there is no charge fee in sending you the OTP via SMS or Email.
What should I do if I do not receive the OTP after repeated attempts?
Your phone number might not have been updated or it can be due to other technical reasons. Please call our experienced Call Center agents at +961 1 708090 or 1270 (inside Lebanon) and they will assist you in resolving this matter.
If the OTP is RESENT 3 times, upon the 4th attempt, You will receive a message to contact the Call Center.
How many contact numbers can I register for SMS and or Email OTP?
One mobile number and One email may be registered for receiving OTP per card whether primary or supplementary.
Will I be able to get the SMS OTP if I was outside Lebanon?
Sure! You will be able to receive the SMS OTP even if you are outside Lebanon.
What will happen if I wrongly entered the OTP several times?
You may make 3 attempts to enter your OTP. However, if you still enter the wrong OTP after the third attempt, If the client wrongly enters the OTP 3 times, his/her card will be soft-blocked and s/he will need to contact the Call Center to unblock it before performing another transaction. If a card is soft-blocked for 3 times during a 30 days period, the card will be hard-blocked and s/he will also have to contact the Call Center in order to release the card before s/he can be able to perform a secure e-commerce transaction
What are the security measures I should be aware of?
Password Security
• Do not reveal the One Time Password (OTP) generated to anyone.
• The One Time Password (OTP) Password must be memorized, not recorded, kept confidential and not shared with anyone.
Software Security
• Ensure that anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall software is deployed on your personal computers,
especially when you are a digital subscriber.
• Update the anti-virus and firewall products with security patches or newer versions on a regular basis.
• Do not install software or run programs of unknown origin.
